Donna continues to be the inspiration behind our goal to raise awareness and support.
Before the disease prevented her from walking, Donna Halpern was heavily involved in Albert’s. Josh remembers her as the company’s bookkeeper when he first got into the business. He also remembers her taking pride in tidying up the store and making sure things were neat and clean...until she couldn’t. Eventually, the disease progressed, and Donna could no longer do the things she once did at the stores. “We have a family business, and we were all together and here, and then it was tough to see this beautiful woman who raised me and did everything for me be challenged and not be able to do the things she once could,” Josh says.
Now, Fred and Donna enjoy most of their time together. Fred does most of the shopping, cooking, and cleaning and says he enjoys it. He credits her for raising both of their kids to be great people with great work ethics, and says she deserves to be labeled as a heroine. While he now does most of the housekeeping, Fred still credits others for lending a helping hand. “I’ve got a lot of great help,” Fred says. “But I find myself doing these things and I say, ‘you know how lucky I am to be able to do it?’”
Donna continues to be the inspiration behind our goal to raise awareness and support for Indiana families that are challenged with the disease, as well as those around the world who need care. Just like Fred, everyone at Albert’s Jewelers feels very lucky to be able to bring awareness to this cause, and we are so very grateful for your generosity. Without our loyal customers, friends, families, community members, vendors, and silent supporters, we would not be well on our way to making the world free of MS.
