If you’re wearing a fully embellished evening gown with beading and a high neck line, consider a statement bangle or a giant cocktail ring. You can’t wear a spectacular dress without at least one piece of spectacular jewelry, but it has to be the right one, and you can’t wear several pieces at once. The point is not to overdo it. Bling is in, but strive for a classic, elegant look. On that note, it is always appropriate on any black tie occasion (or any occasion, frankly) to wear a big diamond ring. That said, don’t be afraid to add a pop of color. It is called for, especially if you are wearing a black dress. Yellow diamonds or a big ruby surrounded by diamonds are the perfect finishing touch, especially with a matching handbag or shoes.
Whatever diamond jewelry you pick out for your big event, try to imagine wearing it with more than one outfit on different occasions. In other words, don’t wear something so specific that it isn’t also versatile. With big diamonds and statement jewelry, it is more than acceptable to wear them more than once — it could become your signature look.
